The Basics of our Sequin Flowers
Our Sequin Flowers are made using Cup Sequins. They all follow the same design construct but vary in terms of:
the size of sequins used - from 4 mm up to 10 mm
the colour of sequins used - Clear, Clear AB (see below), Transparent, Opaque, Satin, Metallic, Black and Black Iris (also referred to as Black AB)
the number of petals - 5 or 6 depending on design
the number of layers of sequins - from 1 to 4
the type of petal formation - Delicas, Seed beads, Rice/Oval beads or a combination. (We leave it to our imagination).
Each Sequin Flower is constructed on a base made of sequins forming an inverted cup shape. This layer is not counted when describing the number of layers a flower has.
We can construct flowers with up to 4 layers of sequins but not all designs can cater for that so look closely at the description and picture to decide what fits your needs.
Our Clear Sequin Flowers are made using transparent uncolored sequins with or without an AB finish. The following image attempts to show the difference between the finishes:
While it can be very difficult to see in a photograph like this, with the naked eye you can easily see how one flower reflects clear white light (Clear Mirror) and the other reflects very pale pastel rainbow effect (Clear AB). Clear Mirror is recommended for white tones; Clear AB for cream tones.
We use several styles for petal formation:
Delica which uses 15/0 size Delica beads
Oval which uses 3*6mm Oval/Rice beads
Fancy which uses 8/0 Delicas and other accent beads such as silver lined clear seed beads - these are only used with colored sequins and is not a custom option
Sizes are expressed in flower diameter as:
Small: 5/8 inch/1cm,
Medium: 3/4 inch/1.5 cm
Large: 1 inch/2.5cm).
Depending on the design the height is about 1/4 inch. Not all flowers come in all sizes.
Each flower has a length of DMC double strand embroidery cotton still attached for you to sew to whatever garment you choose. Alternatively, you can glue them to craft items (we recommend hot glue or E6000).
We do have a custom option where the flowers can be constructed using beading cord and/or have the centre bead wired in.
Our flowers are meticulously hand crafted in the USA. No sweat shop labor is used! All components are sewn not glued.
AB stands for Aurora Borealis. This is a coating often given to light colored beads and sequins which produces a soft pastel rainbow effect when light hits them.
Iris is a coating given to dark colored beads and sequins which produce a dark/metalic rainbow effect - a bit like how water is reflected on oil. I tend to think of an Eggplant when I see this color. As a finsh, it is mainly used for Black items.
